Become a
Better Listener February
22nd, 4:00 pm—6:00 pm ($50)
When people
feel "heard", they often relax their defensive positions and are more
open to the intervention. This workshop teaches techniques for listening as a
means to connect and understand your co-workers, employees and supervisors.
Assertive
Communication March
22nd, 4:00 pm—6:00 pm ($50)
How to speak up, ask for what you want, and change your life. Do you let
others get their way because you are reluctant to speak up? Do you speak up too
quickly and end up being accused of being aggressive? This workshop will help
you develop a sure-fire technique to ask for what you want in a respectful and
clear manner.
Managing Conflict, Teams, and Agreements April
26th, 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm ($50)
This workshop will explore ways to limit or prevent unintended negative
outcomes by handling conflict in a more productive and courageous way. It will
also assist you in finding the skill and courage to handle interpersonal
conflict in teams including managing unspoken agreements assertively.

How to deal with emotionally upset people. This workshop uses some basic
principles of neuropsychology to present a model for understanding the
behaviors of people who are emotionally upset.
Introduction
to Conflict Coaching June
28th, 4:00pm-6:00pm ($50)
Conflict Coaching is a one-on-one, forward looking, supportive process
intended to help the client be more effective in handling conflict in their
lives. This introductory workshop will provide an overview of conflict coaching
and present information about the differences between coaching and the fields
of counseling, mediation, mentoring, and supervision.
Basic Mediation and Conflict Resolution Skills*** April 28th - 30th, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm ($399)
This
training covers the basic principles of conflict resolution, the
mediation process, communication skills, and issues faced by mediators.
It
includes role plays and practice activities applicable to real life
situations
including neighborhood disputes, workplace conflict, and issues that may
be
seen in General District Court cases. This course has been certified by
the
Supreme Court of Virginia, Office of Dispute Resolution; is currently
approved for 20.0 credit hours including 1.0 credit hours of ethics by
the
Virginia MCLE Board; and is currently approved approved for 21 hours of
General recertification credit toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR through the
HRCI.

Introduction to Conflict Resolution
This 4-hour course covers the basic principles of conflict resolution
including: conflict styles, conflict theory, and communication skills. It is
helpful for anyone who is interested in learning to handle conflict in a more
productive way. This course teaches life skills that are essential in working
with people in any and every capacity.
The
"Normalness" of Bias
A nonthreatening workshop that brings the humanness of bias to light and
challenges participants to act on learning in a manner that allows them to
better relate to others in virtually any setting.
Conflict and Diversity
With diverse cultures, backgrounds and ideas comes the potential for
conflict. This workshop helps attendees
learn to resolve conflict within the complex context of diversity. You will learn effective techniques and tools
for working with diversity in your workplace and costumers/clients.
What is TimeBanking?
A Timebank
is a community of people who support each other. Members spend an hour doing
something for another member to earn a time dollar. Then members spend that
time dollar by having other members provide an hour of service for them. Its
simple, one hour equals one hour, yet it builds the community by creating new
relationships and meeting unmet needs. More information available at

What is Restorative Justice?
Restorative Justice is a process for repairing the harm created by
wrongdoing and encouraging positive future behavior that is now being offered
to juveniles in the Roanoke Valley. Find out more about this innovative program
during this informal, informational workshop designed for public servants and
those interested in volunteering or simply learning about the Restorative
Justice approach to addressing wrongdoing.
Mediator
Peer Consultation (FREE)
This
innovative program will encourage mediators to think about their experiences
and search for a deeper understanding of what occurred and why. Participants
will break into small groups, and a facilitator will focus discussion on
“critical moments” shared by volunteers. MPC is an opportunity to learn from
others in the field and sharpen effectiveness of mediation strategies and
techniques.
Virginia’s
Judicial System for Mediators
This training provides an over of Virginia’s
judicial systems and serves to satisfy the requirements for General Mediator
Certification as set forth by the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Family
Mediation Skills
Family Mediation training is an experiential training covering principles
of conflict resolution, communication skills, and the complex issues related to
mediating emotionally sensitive family disputes. This training includes role
plays and practice activities applicable to real life situations in Juvenile
and Domestic Relations District Court cases. This training is designed for
those who have completed the 20-hour Basic Mediation Training. The Family
Mediation Skills Training has been certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia,
Office of Dispute Resolution.
Screening
for Domestic Violence
This workshop examines the impact of domestic violence on the mediation
process. Participants will learn how to identify a history of domestic
violence, how to recognize behaviors incompatible with mediation, and how
to address the repercussions of terminating or continuing in mediation.
Completion of Basic Mediation Training and Family Mediation Training is
recommended. This training has been certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia,
Office of Dispute Resolution. (***20% Early Bird Discount Available when
